I met with representatives of several solar companies prior to meeting with John Yeh from HI Power Solar. I had heard various offers about leasing their solar equipment some with no money out of pocket, but substantial monthly payments for 25 years. I also told I could buy their equipment, each with slightly different maintenance and warranty plans, however John Yeh had an offer that I couldn’t refuse and I didn’t. Once we agreed on a price and specific plans, everything started happening quickly. On the designated installment date, I had three trucks arrive with five or six crew members unloading equipment and materials, which they installed over three days. I tried to stay out of their way, but was mesmerized by all the activity and had to watch and learn what they were doing. Fortunately they took the time to verify with me that our original plans were being followed and that they were placing the equipment where I wanted it. The crew worked diligently throughout their shift and I appreciated the patience of the Journeyman Electrician Connor who took a few minutes several times a day to educate me on how the equipment functioned while Rico kept the installment team focused. If you’re looking to have solar installed on your home I highly recommend that you look at HI Power Solar’s presentation.

I don’t understand much about solar so when I was experiencing problems with my monitor, I called Hi-Power and Chase was patient and understanding and walked me through troubleshooting the problem.

Also I would like to acknowledge Mark for responding promptly whenever I had questions regarding my solar panels and batteries.

This morning I had spent over one hour with a TESLA support person and we tried multiple things, so after that I decided to do a reset of the PV system, just to make sure everything was back in the normal state. I knew how to do it, so I went through the disconnect sequence, throwing off the required switches and then resetting them in the reverse sequence.

But to my HORROR the whole system was completely dead, and even worse, there was NO POWER in my home anymore!!! Not knowing what to do I sent a desperate help message to my Hi POWER Solar contact, Cruz, the one that sold me the system almost 6 years ago.

Less than a minute later he called me back, asked me to check things, and when everything was OK he asked me a question: Did you check the main breaker to the grid? I replied that I had not opened it, but he asked me to check it anyway, it may have tripped. So I did it and… the main breaker had tripped! I reset it and everything was working fine again!

All these high tech systems are wonderful as long as everything is working fine, but inevitably something eventually will go wrong and in that case it is fundamental to have an expert hand ready to help you out when you need it!

I did my homework in checking 6 different solar companies at the BIA show at the Blaisdell. ALL came to my home to check out the roof, etc. and came back with quotes for panel/battery and installation cost. I dealt with Tasha who was very knowledgable and communication was quick response via emails and texts.
Hi Power Solar gave us the best price and did all the paperwork for HECO and Honolulu Dept of Permit and Planning. That was what took the longest ( about 2 and a half months to get approved for both). We had 5 Installers for solar panels on the roof and storage batteries (Rico, Josh, Miko, Kaipo and Conner) and able to install under 8 hours in the same day. We had a follow up visit after the installation was complete (from Cruz) and he taught us both how to check the solar panel charge being sent to the battery, so that we can check on our own. I highly recommend this company. And suggest you choose solar sooner than later, because the price of your HECO bill is NEVER going to go down. We are very HAPPY CUSTOMERS of HI Power Solar!

She was involved in every step of the process and her immense knowledge of the systems, the process, the permits, the installation truly makes you feel like you are in the right hands. Hi Power Solar came through for me again for a take down, put back, and upgrade of my home system during a major home renovation. They were able to work around my schedule to take down just prior to demolition and put back upon roof completion. The upgraded inverter not only improved the performance of my existing battery system but consolidated space compared to what was in place before. The crew that came was outstanding as all were prompt, professional, and super personable. They all worked so hard to ensure that my existing system was reinstalled and working like new. I really appreciated the transparent communication of daily goals, accomplishments, and recommendations. It brings a real peace of mind when having a bunch of guys working on and just being around your home. Although not every product will work out perfectly and manufacturer warranties can be a nightmare, the expertise and workmanship quality of the installing team will mean the difference. Nothing but good things to say about HI POWER Solar. First of all, let me say that they were the first ones to actually listen to me in regard to what I was wanting to do with my preexisting PV system. From the beginning all wanted to do was get it working right. Nothing more…nothing less. Instead of trying to sell me a new brand-new PV system with all the bells and whistles, Cindy worked with me to order and replace the existing inverters. Anytime I had questions she was responsive and always got back to me in a timely manner. Rico and his crew did an outstanding job ripping everything out and completing the inverter upgrades resulting in a much cleaner and professional setup. Even when I had questions about consumption monitoring via the Enphase app, Rico showed up onsite that afternoon to enable that feature. That being said in less than TWO days my PV system has already produced as much kWh than my previous WEEKLY averages. Again, I can’t say enough how satisfied I am with their services. Ron and Company installed my PV system 10 years ago. The installation, system performance and service have all been wonderful. Just had a pretty complex problem worked on by Joe, Makana and Suki and they persisted until they solved it. And, like Ron’s entire team, they were friendly, careful of your property and just great guys. And, Evelyn, the coordinator of all their service, is fantastic to work with. Chase and Cruze and the people over at Hipower solar did an amazing job on my parents house they were very helpful throughout the whole process solar panels and backup battery work like they should and couldn’t be happier. Cruze went above and beyond when my parents had an issue with the solar not working due to poor original house wiring on the dryer he came out from the airport and got them backup and running. Hi Power installed 9 photo voltaic panels and 2 Enphase batteries on my townhouse. Once HOA approved design it took quite awhile to get the building permit through DPP (normal problem here in Honolulu County, especially for Townhouses which have to follow Commercial vice Residential rules). Hi Power installers were scheduled within a week of the permit being issued. It too k 2 days for the install. All of the employees were professional and courteous, patiently answering all my questions, and got me set up on the Enlighten App to monitor my equipment.
Management followed up to ensure I was satisfied and answered any questions I had.
Looking forward to seeing my electric bill drop to the minimum.

I added more battery and had hard time to understand the improvements done to unit but when I got my new electric bill very happy to see reduction in bill plus very patient in answering all my questions and concerns .

it started on May 30th 2025….I had an old solar water heater system that was badly leaking water from one of the solar panels.
I heard from a friend about Hi POWER SOLAR . I called Ron ( owner)….he was in Vegas on his vacation (sorry Ron, I didn’t know) but he answered his phone and I explained my situation to him so Ron gave me his son, Cruz phone number and if there is no answer, to call him back.
I called Cruz and explained my situation, he will call Mike Soto ( lead contact specialist) to help me turn off the water to the solar panels and power off the pump.
When Mike arrive and turned the water valves off and disconnected the pump motor, Mike, my wife and I decided that I needed a new solar water heater system he explained how the new Solar system works, it’s importance of the maintenance and the credits to be applied to the system….a contract sign with HI POWER SOLAR that afternoon
June 5th, 2025 the installation crew arrived. Alden Pitt (lead man),Kawaika Pitt, and Makana Agiviar….Alden explained the installation on how and why the solar panels will be mounted and also explained the operation of the other components on the solar system. All work was done professionally and efficiently and the crew was very customer friendly, awesome crew.
Installation was completed that day and my new solar water heater system was ” up and running “.

Quite the journey and Hi-Power held my hand through it all. I did my due diligence and contacted several companies – one didn’t turn their camera on during the initial meeting, another never returned my calls, and others just weren’t excited about talking to me about solar. Hi-Power, Cindy, called and came to my house for an in person deep dive. She is very down to earth, told me how it is and what to expect and let me decide on my own terms. Responses were quick and I was never made to feel like anything but a respected customer.

Part of the plan was the need for a new roof. Cindy coordinated and walked me through the numbers, timing, options and even made site visits while the work was in progress. Props to the roofing representative, Bronson, who gave me an in person visit to actually look at the roof to verify it needs replacement and suggested ‘upgrades’ to help keep the house cooler during the day. The team was extremely professional, very fast and didn’t bat an eye when I bothered them with questions.

The solar team – Props to Conor (and everyone!) – made the journey to solar as comfortable as possible. They explained what was happening, what was going on and what will happen in easy to understand terms. They had no issues with me watching them work and asking questions as they went along. They kept the work and work area tidy, and and were all very professional. After completion, Hi-Power still answers my emails.

I am very satisfied with the system I selected (Panasonic EverVolt) – it was not Hi-Power pushing a system to me. Cindy prepared different options for me to review and made new options if I wanted to look at other scenarios (more panels, less panels, additional battery, etc.). She helped to ensure the system worked within our budget and tried to ensure it met our needs and expectations.

I absolutely recommend Hi-Power Solar. If the house grows a new roof, they are my fist call!

Requested for the solar water heater tune-up/maintenance (every 5 years it’s supposed to be done). Went to the Hawaii Energy website to look for vendor who did solar water heater tune-ups. Found Hi Power Solar. Gave them a call. Spoke to the marketing person, who sent us a contract by email spelling out what would be involved with the tune-up, reviewed it within 5 days, signed it, emailed it back and within 3 days another email came acknowledging receipt of the contract and that someone from the office would call to set up an appt., and to please submit half of the payment for the job. I mailed in a check. The marketing person called me and texted me and we set up appt. for service. Techs Alden and Makana came about 4 days later and performed service. Alden took care of the water heater side (replaced anode rod, checked box, connection, drained tank until water ran clear; Makana climbed on the roof and attended to the panels, the insulation and the valve up top. Really friendly, informative (we asked questions about overall condition of our system, asked about any rust they saw, things we needed to be aware of, etc.), efficient and patient technicians (they had to answer our questions and showed us what they did). Alden who tended to the water heater even took off his shoes when entering our house, even though the water heater was in a mud room sort of area, he still took off his shoes. Good service and thorough. Thank you! One thing about the set up of the appointment is that everything was very stealthy I felt, mostly done by email. Other than the initial call from the marketing person and the final call to set up the appt., everything was done by email. I mailed in a check for half of the cost as they requested because it was so stealthy, I didn’t want to give a credit card number to just anyone. I did check the DCCA Professional and Vocational Division website for license confirmation and insurance, everything appeared above board. If you’re okay with setting up appts. via email, signing contracts via email with minimal phone contact, then this company was very efficient in doing it that way!

Was having some issues with the PV system they installed years ago. They tried to troubleshoot over the phone and came out the next day to do a visual inspection. Everything turned out ok and I’m thankful they responded quickly and gave me peace of mind.

Micro inverters needed to be changed out. System is about 12 years. System has been very reliable. Considered doing an up grade with the legacy model. Decided to just change out the non reporting microinverters. System is operating and showing panel production. Workers were very cordial before and after completing change out of microinverters.

We had solar panels installed with a battery back up. Everything was delivered and installed timely as promised. Rico, Justin, and crew were courteous and professional. The team at HI POWER Solar have been awesome. Great experience and overall ended up getting a 8.1 KW PV System with a string inverter and whole home backup battery. The final process is still taking place due to timing from HECO but the team at HI POWER has been helpful the entire time.

Lisa from sales was very responsive and came back with answers and adjustments to the PV System buildout that I was looking at. She probably sent me around 5 quotes as I was doing my own comparing of the various hardware to choose from.

Taylor as the Project Coordinator kept it all together even though I was looking for updates every minute. She helped me get all the proper documentation from my housing association and get things moving with HECO.

Some extra electrical work that had to get up to code that was in place from the previous owners was taken care of in addition to the PV installation. We chose Hi Power Solar for their quality hardware options/warranties, and customer service and satisfaction. All of which we equate with great value.

Our sales consultant, Cynthia, arranged a videoconference to accommodate our COVID concerns and led us through a very informative powerpoint presentation. She responded in detail to our questions and made us aware of a few things we hadn’t considered. We weren’t surprised when we learned later that Cynthia used to be a teacher!

The project coordinator, Taylor, smoothly assisted us with the process of project design and approval through two homeowners associations, and the scheduling of installation.

The installation crew showed up promptly and worked extra hard to complete the installation before a large storm hit the islands. The electrical foreman, RIco, was super nice and kept us informed throughout the two-day installation. The crew worked very diligently and left the area extremely clean. And they were surprisingly quiet as well, which we appreciated since my wife still works from home!

Cynthia even showed up a few days later to see the install and to answer any additional questions. Her young son even drew a picture to accompany her thank you note!

It was a real pleasure to work with a locally owned and operated company that has the aloha spirit to back it up! So much so that we’ve requested an estimate from their service department, Justin, to clean and service our existing solar water heating panels and system.

Good service and very responsive. Been in the business for a long while and came recommended by family. Installation spanned over two days. Any question or concern we had were addressed immediately!

I contacted Hi-Power Solar back in late November 2020 in regards to installing a Tesla wall charger, additional PV panels, and batteries. We were greeted by Bill from sales and was extremely knowledgeable with all the products, answering any question we had. Communication with him and the project coordinator Geoff was extremely easy. They kept us up-to-date regarding our project every step of the way, even until the day of installation.

Special thanks to the guys on-site: Electrician Lead – Rico, Electrical Helper – Matt, Roof Lead – Justin, Roof Helpers – Kaipo & Chevy. The team was hardworking, very friendly, and respectful. They came early and completed everything in 2 days. They followed COVID-19 protocols – wore masks and alerted us before entering our home. Before they left, Rico walked us through the basics of our new system and made sure all our questions were answered.

Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and I would HIGHLY recommend them for any solar/battery or Tesla wall charger installation!

Hi-Power Solar did an amazing job at my house. I have been planning to add Solar Panels with battery backup and Air Conditioner to my house for about 3 years and have gotten multiple quotes from other businesses around the island. I first contacted (Cynthia and Cruz) almost 3 years ago to explore my options but because life situation I had to move back to the mainland. During the last 2 years, Cynthia kept in touch and updated me on different technology and options for AC, Solar Panels, and batteries that had become available to the market and how it would benefit my family and more specifically my wallet… Once I moved back, I contacted Cynthia and she came to my house with Cruz the very next day to discuss the ideas that I had in mind, and they confidently gave me feedback that made me comfortable to proceed. They are super friendly, positive, and creative.
My observation of the Installation Team: From the first contact that I had with the Lead Ikaika, I knew it was going to be a good experience during the project phase. Ikaika introduced himself and his assistant. He asked if I had any questions or concerns before he got on the roof to take measurements. I explain to him my ideas for the location of the Generac batteries and Air Conditioner condenser. A Couple of days later the guys doing the Installation showed up with 3 trucks and all their equipment. Right away the Lead Electrician Rico introduced himself and the team that was going to be working on the project. Rico very thoroughly explained to me what was going to happen on day 1 of 2. Because I always like to learn new stuff I started walking around and approach Matt the electrical assistant that was installing the batteries and all the electrical connections. Matt is a gentle giant that took the time to explain all the components and their functions. He really cares and puts maximum effort to make things right so there are no issues anytime soon. Matt is a master of all trades and he bounces between the batteries and the installation of electrical cabling and solar panels themselves. Justin, Kamu, Joe, and Mario did a great job installing all the railings and cleaning up after themselves. These guys worked all day without complaining and needing anything throughout the entire day.
All required permits were filed with the County of Honolulu and HECO before the project started giving me much more confidence. They have a great financing program with EZLOAN. The process of applying with EZLOAN was easy and convenient since they work hand in hand with Hi-Power Solar.
I would recommend this company for any house project that you have planned for your home. Even though their prices were competitive if not better than most companies that I contacted, I would not use any other company in the future because of their level of customer service and how they stayed within the timelines they promised. They are also military friendly.

I haven’t written a Yelp review in years but the exceptional service I received from Hi-Power Solar surely deserves my time to share my experience!

First start with our account manager Bill. He was very professional and knowledgeable with the available technologies. He clearly understood our needs and addressed all of our concerns.

Our next contact with Hi-Power was with Geoff the project manager for scheduling and permitting. Another concern for us was to get the project completed quickly for tax purposes. He promptly submitted all the required applications with both HECO and our very strict HOA. He got it done really quick, he really know his stuff!

Impressed so far, but now came the real test- installation day. 41 panels, 2 Generac PWRcells. First let me explain that my house has a very complex architecture and 5 levels roofline. Over the next few days I witnessed something so hard to find these days- these guys really take pride in their work. As I monitored their progress I witnessed so many instances where they could easily have taken a shorter route but instead made the extra effort to do it right! These guys really strive for excellence.

I needed to get my 38 panel solar PV installed right away (before the federal credit was reduced at the beginning of 2021) and the Hi-Power crew knocked it out in just over two days’ time. They did great work and were very pleasant to work with. I’d like to thank the group of Rico, Matt, Bryan and Tony (electricians) along with Justin, Mario, Makana, Joe, Kamu, Kaipo, and Chevy (roofers). The salesperson, Cynthia was very accommodating and helpful in getting what we needed, to include “expired” discounts. Finally, thanks to Geoff who helped pull all of the design and paperwork together in order to get the installation scheduled.

A friend of mine referred me here, so I called Chase. He came over to my house and we talked about how much electricity we use and how low we want to bring our HECO bill down. Because my major appliances (water heater, dryer, stove) are gas, we decided on 16 panels, and a GENERAC PWR CELL battery. We liked the PWR CELL because you can always add storage space depending on your electrical needs. After that meeting with Chase he let me know that they use HSFCU as their preferred lender. I really liked that because they do a 0% interest/ 0 payments for 2 years.

Setting up everything was Rae, she did a great job of keeping us updated on the process. It is somewhat of a timely process waiting for HOA and HECO approvals, but these guys took care of all of that for us.

As for the installation, Rico and his team showed up at about 745 and began their work. They were all professional and efficient at their jobs. I was expecting them to take 2 days, but they stayed late and finished everything in 1. The work looks good, and clean. Wires ran nicely and as hidden as possible. Panels look exactly like the plans, so no complaints. Overall I was really impressed with their work. System started working as soon as they were done, and so far its working exactly how they said it would. I would definitely recommend them to anybody looking to install a PV system.

Great job on the planning by Cynthia and installation by the team. Cynthia was very helpful and well informed. She took the time to explain the various options and pricing. Solar water has been on for about 3 months now and no issues thus far.

I’m so happy and glad to go with HI SOLAR PV company.  It took me five different consultants to finally make a decision to go with HI SOLAR PV.  It took us over ten years to finally purchase our own PV system through the Federal & State rebates with the help of Cynthia Viloria.  She is so passion about her job as a salesperson and she answered most of our questions and find the most inexpensive and liable PV panels like Panasonic brands and six Generac backup batteries.  Special thanks to the project manager engineer Geoff for good suggestion, layout plan and quick designing for PV system on my roof plan.  Lastly, big mahalo to Rico and his electrician team for completing all the installation including power in to Heco just two days.  I couldn’t believe how fast these guys are and also very professional how they clean up afterwards.  It took me five different consultants (Vivid, SunRun, Sonova, HI-TECH, etc) to ask questions and quotes and by far HI-Solar PV was the best because they partners with the Roofing/Renovation,  Solar PV installation,  A/C conditioning, etc.
Last but not the least,  I just received my first electric bill only $50 instead of paying Heco $270 for their service.  HALLELUJAH and thanks again to our savior HI-Power Solar.

Installation of 4 ACs were completed over 2 days. The crew was nice and cleaned up around installation areas. There were a couple issues after installation, but the service team was able to come out and address them.
Even after the installation, Cynthia checked in on us to see how things were going.
The BEST thing is the savings. We had an older (maybe 15 years) unit that was struggling to work, and one window unit. First two bills after installation were $70 and $100 less than before we got the split units. Great savings!

This is an amendement to my 5/3/2023 review of Hi-Power Solar. Just after posting my 1-star review, I received a call from Cruz who agreed to charge me the price I had been paying before for changing a microinverter without the $360 truck rollout fee. Plus, he said he’d waive the down payment on the labor because I was an old-time customer. A few days later, when I contacted the company for an appointment, Ron picked up to explain why their charges had gone up. He did agree to honor the price Cruz had given me this one time. The techs came over and did a wonderful job as always. And I have to say the new lady handling the emails and billing is on top of everything. So I’ll say this. They do a great job. No question. My disagreement is only regarding the new pricing which, while I understand their position, is higher than I’d like to pay everytime another microinverter goes out.

Just wanted to say that this company so far has been great from the start of our solar company search to the installation process and post service after the installation. Cruz, the sales person, explained the process well at the beginning. He was very patient with us and answered all of our many numerous questions. He never pressured us in any way. When we started the installation process, the installation crew: Electrical Forman Rico, Electrical assistants Ashley and Conor, Roof Lead Aldon, and Roof assistant Makana, were nothing but the best and very professional. They too were very patient with us and answered all of our questions. They took the time to explain to us how the system works and why they installed the system the way they did. They were all very knowledgeable in their trade and were very polite. After the installation, Rico the Electrical Forman, continues to provide great service and answers our concerns when we reach out to him. He reaches out to us in a timely manner. The customer service has been great at the start, during the installation process, and post the installation process. I hope this company continues to provide a great service for us as the years go on with our system. Finding a trustworthy local solar company is difficult, I’m glad we found one in this company.

HI Power installed a split air conditioner system in my home and constructed a roof over my lanai. The team, which included Cynthia from sales and Nick the a/c installer were excellent. Cynthia is very responsive both during the sale and after sale support, usually getting back to me within 5 minutes. Nick was meticulous with the a/c installation; I couldn’t be happier with the entire a/c project. I did consider installing solar panels, but Cynthia’s cost benefit analysis showed I wouldn’t get a return on my investment; I appreciated her honesty.

I was less enthusiastic about the roof construction. The roofing project was not well coordinated and I was very unhappy with the contractor that HI Power subcontracted to do the roof construction. The contractor cut corners on the project, did not construct the roof per my design specs, and their finishing work was greatly lacking.

Awesome service, total professionalism and service that needs merit. These guys have become my go to team for all of my solar panel and system needs.

Bill was sales. Geoff was the contact for Installation, Roof Repair, Permitting, etc. Electrical lead Rico, and electricians was Joeffer and Camron. Roof lead Justin and Matt. The whole team did a great job with the installation of our entire PV system. From start to finish, from Sales to Installation it was smooth sailing with no hiccups. Work was completed ahead of schedule. Hi Power is a great option if you’re in the market for a PV system.

I did a lot of shopping around from various solar companies on the island. Chase came out to my house and was extremely knowledgeable and straight forward with me. He explained everything really well and obviously is an expert in his field. More importantly, he was honest! He took the time to design the system we wanted that met our needs. Rae, our project manager took care of everything with our HOA which I know was probably a pain, but Rae made it look easy. Superb experience. Worked with multiple people; Tina S. our sales rep, who worked diligently and tirelessly for a most enjoyable experience. Geoff, listened to our concerns and designed the layout, coordinated with HECO and started the permits process. Rico & Justin were the leads on installation, they and they’re team were very professional and extremely courteous. If I could give higher rating I would do it.

Live on Waianae coast, so will be achieving maximum sun coverage for the island. I purchased (38) Rec 370 watt panels and the Generac Inverter and Battery System and look forward to many years of great service.

Rico from HI Power Solar installed two ceiling fans at my house. Throughout the process, he was great at “working in the background”. Performing the work was relatively quick, well done, and pretty hassle free. Would definitely look to this company for further home electrical work in the future.

HI-Power was the only company (of 4 solicited) who came through with a written quote. Others provided verbal rough estimates and then stopped responding.
HI-Power was also willing to work with our multiple Home Owner Associations for design reviews/approval.
Install had a few hiccups but is fine. AC lead tech, Nicholas put in extra hours and his team worked hard. AC is running very well.

I have requested quotes for Solar PV systems from 5 companies. HI-Power Solar provided the best and most detailed review and quote for a complete energy efficient design customized for my house and our lifestyle. Cynthia Viloria from Hi-Power spent several hours detailing options for our home and explained each component of their proposed system. Hi-Power replaced a solar hot water panel for me. Great service, very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. They also provided a quote for a split AC system. It wasn’t the right fit for me, but I was so impressed with their thoughtful and detailed estimate. They really took the time to educate me and answer my questions, as well as work to find the best system possible for my budget and my needs. They are reps for Panasonic, and I have done a bit of research and they really are great systems. If you are looking for solar or AC you really have to call these guys.

Great experience with HIP POWER Solar. From the initial call in speaking with the owner who provided me with a wealth of information to working directly with Cynthia who navigated us through determining what is actually best for our situation in terms of electricity consumption. Is working in your favor to protect you in a investment that will work towards you for years to come !!!!

So when I first wrote my review, I was quite satisfied with the overall experience with Hi-Power Solar, except for one thing. I was willing to overlook it, but after it happened two more times and thinking about it, I thought that if I were a customer looking for a PV company, this is something they would want to be know. Our salesperson and point of contact, Cynthia was very helpful and knowledgeable, but was late every single time she was supposed to meet with us. The first time we were supposed to meet with her at 4pm. She texted 30 minutes prior and asked if we could make it 4:30pm, which was no problem, at least she let us know in advance. The next time was to sign the contract. We were going to meet at 4pm, then she asked if we could change it to 3:30pm, no problem I said. By 3:48pm I didn’t hear anything from her and asked if we had switched it back to 4pm. She said sorry, yes please. And she didn’t make it by 4pm either. After the install, Cynthia wanted to drop of a thank you gift and also take a photo with the PV panels completed. I wrote my first review before we were going to meet. We agreed to meet at 4pm on a Monday, but by 4:40pm, she didn’t show up and didn’t call or text. I had things to take care of so I texted her that I wasn’t available. She texted a few minutes later that she had been stuck in traffic and had just parked. Not wanting to leave things on a bad note, we agreed to meet the next week at 4:30pm. By 4:53 pm she still hadn’t shown up, called, or texted so I just texted her that there was no need to stop by. I had no other issues with the company and everything seems to be running smoothly.

I called Ron to get some information on solar and to ask if they fixed solar water heaters. Ron had his tech Mario call me and Mario helped me over the phone. He had me turn a knob on my water heater back and forth which at first didn’t fix the problem. He told me he would come up in 10 minutes to check it out. within a minute of hanging up, my water was hot. I called him back and he explained to me what he thought the problem was and told me if I have any other problems with my water heater to give him a call. What other company would give you free advice over the phone and not charge you!! Thank you Ron and Mario!!
That’s not all… Ron’s son Chase came to my house and spent 6 hours explaining to my wife and I everything we needed to know about solar. His knowledge and honesty is more than anyone could ask for. If you are thinking about getting solar, I would definitely talk to Chase before signing any contract with any other company. You’ll be sorry if you don’t!! There is A LOT of hidden information you want to know before you invest in solar. Chase is very easy to talk to and doesn’t pressure you into buying anything. There is a lot of options you’ll want to know about before buying a package deal that will most likely leave you very unhappy. Once you sign that contract it’s to late. We aren’t completely done with the 45 panel and two battery installation as just waiting now for HECO sign-off; however, just wanted to say how much we are impressed so far with the professionalism, diligence, communication, and support we have been provided by the folks at Hi-Power Solar. From our sales exec, Bill Schoonover; the operations lead, Geoff Lee; and the install technicians, Rico, Brian, Justin, and Matt; everyone has been top notch! We considered three different firms, and made our decision based on Hi-Power’s competitive price, clear explanations, and hopeful confidence that we could trust them with our fairly large PV/battery system. Bill was very clear in his explanation of the proposed system and we never felt pressured at any point along they way, while considering size of the system as well as the type of panels and batteries. He gave us his professional suggestions, yet explained the alternatives; so we were confident that we were able to make the best decision possible for our power needs. We ran into an initial glitch with permitting, but Geoff was extremely accommodating and came up with a solution which satisfied DPP and allowed our project install to start on a timely basis. We really felt that he was on our side in the deliberations with DPP. The install was completed in two full days, and the technicians were amazing. They were timely, professional, and respectful of our time and the property. They cleaned up each day and left the area cleaner than it was before they got started. The electrical was performed by Rico and Brian, and the rooftop panel and equipment installation was lead by Justin and Matt. We are now looking forward to the HECO sign-off and we are confident that Hi-Power will continue to have our back should any issues arise. Without a doubt, we recommend anyone considering PV/battery solutions to give Hi-Power a call. While I’m sure that the other Hi-Power employees will be just as great; if you have a chance, request the team that supported our project. You will not be disappointed!!

Hi-Power Solar did an outstanding job putting up my photovoltaic installation.

My consultant, Eric Yasunaga was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable throughout the whole process from start to finish. He was very patient and answered all my questions to where I could easily understand.

The installation team were extremely efficient, professional, and pleasant to deal with. The electrical wiring, new breaker box/circuit, and solar panels were all installed in 1 day! Everything that is visible from the outside of the house looks neat and professionally done.

Huge shout out to Henry “Mac” McMurray! Apparently, he noticed some dust on one of the panels after they had packed up. The panel he was talking about is not real visible from the road and there is a huge mango tree next to my house which makes it more not noticeable. I guess he was bothered by it driving away going back to the office. He called me later apologizing and was willing to come out the next day(Saturday) to wipe it down. I told him that it’s just dust and that when it rains, it will wash it away so don’t worry about it. Totally blew me away. These guys take pride in their work!

Ron and the team at Hi-Power Solar installed our system 8 years ago. The initial install was done to perfection and the follow-on service has been spectacular. It’s so good they will call me before I even notice I have a micro-inverter down!! These guys are the best.

Contacted this company for PV info and reached Cynthia. She provided me with so much helpful information. Just a little background info – our PV company that originally installed over 8 years ago, is no longer is business. Our system had never had any maintenance service at all. She offered MANY suggestions on what to do, and even advice on how to reduce our electricity costs. I’m in the process now of researching our options. I’m glad I found Cynthia- she’s a valuable asset to this company. We really had a great experience with HI-Power Solar. Rico, Bryan, Makana, Kamu, Geoff and Cruz were really good to work with. The installation team worked very hard and was always ready to help with our questions on things.

My family and I want to thank the awesome folks at HI-Power Solar for their great work and quick and highly efficient service. We signed a contract with Bill in May, locking in tax credit for 2020, and 2 months later system was installed. From start to finish, they were true professionals. It only took two days for a complete installation. The team provided a daily schedule and stuck to it. Rico and his team did an excellent job, provided thorough instructions on how to use the inverter, and answered all my questions. We highly recommend HPS to anyone looking for a high-quality system and service.

These guys are great!! I had my solar hot water heater die out on me and the company that put it in went bankrupt and shut down but these guys stepped up to the plate! Ron (the owner) called me back on a Sunday just to touch base with me and Mario (foreman) called the next day to schedule a visit to assess our situation. We had a couple companies give us bids and this company was more competitive in their bid so they have our business from here on out. Regardless of whether you are putting in a new system or maintaining your current one, give them a call and you won’t be disappointed in any way. Hi-Power Solar installed a PV system for us around two years ago. Everything went smoothly for the installation, the price was reasonable, and the Hi-Solar staff were super helpful. I would definitely recommend them based on the initial installation alone.

However, what prompted me to write this review was that recently Hi-Power Solar contacted us to let us know that one of our panels had conked out. We would have missed it completely, as I am way too busy to keep an eye on the daily output of our system. True to their word (and contract), Hi-Power Solar was monitoring our system, noticed the “bad” panel, contacted us promptly and then replaced the panel. It gives me great relief to know that my PV system is one thing I don’t need to worry about because Hi-Power Solar had our backs!

Extremely pleased with the service and the quality of the solar hot water system installed by HI-Power Solar (HPS). Was about to sign a contract with a well known competitor, but glad I spoke to HPS’s Ex Dir for Bus Development,Eric Yasunaga, who provided me with a very competitive quote for an equal or better system. Eric kept me informed throughout the installation from the pre-installation inspection through the on-site installation and building permit closing. Operations Manager, Mario Ramirez, and the HI-Power crew was efficient and displayed great professionalism while on-site. I found this company through a google search and I’m so, soo lucky to have come across Hi-Power Solar. With the cloudy, rainy weather these past couple of weeks, our hot water had been dwindling and I wasn’t sure if there was more to the problem then just the weather. I called Hi-Power Solar and spoke to the owner Ron who was willing to spend some time with me on the phone & walk me through trouble shooting my solar water heater. He told me that he could save me some money and walk me through troubleshooting my water heater rather than having it serviced which could cost a lot of money especially if it ends up being a minor problem. Ultimately, he helped me fix my problem at zero cost and I’m soooo grateful for it. If I ever need servicing for my solar water heater, this is the company I’d choose, hands down! They’re honest, reliable, and obviously want to help you out. I’d highly recommend this company!!

I would like to commend Mario Ramirez and Christian Bernard for a job well done. They came to the house to investigate a leak I suspected to be originating from my solar PV system installed by Hi-Power Solar two years earlier. As it turned out, it was the dried and cracking sealant around my solar water heater roof penetration that caused the rain water to leak. This is a 15 year old system! Nevertheless, these two gentlemen volunteered to fix the problem and further offered solutions on how I should maintain this system.

This singular action is clearly over and beyond their normal responsibility but they did it without hesitation. I just want to say Mahalo for your professionalism. Keep up the good work!

I reached out to HI-Power Solar and spoke with Cynthia back in 2019 in regards to installing a Solar water heater. Cynthia was very well informed, professional, gave me options and never pressure me of buying a bigger water heater tank. At that time, I was not ready to pull the trigger and advised me to contact her when I was ready. She would keep in touch every now and to remind me about the tax credit being phase out. Early part of this year, I contacted Cynthia to have the Solar power installed. Once the ball started rolling, her team of professional went to worked. Geoff and Evy coordinated the HOA process and permitting, Derek for the most efficient design lay out, Alden and his crew for the installation were very professional, and efficient by finishing it way ahead of the schedule. All safety protocol was followed. Alden explained what the anti-scald valve does and the recommended setting, explained what the red lights means when troubleshooting, and suggested the timeframe for maintenance. An hour after Alden and crew left, I had a scalding water in the house and it was a cloudy day. Cynthia came by later to inspect the finish product. I also want to commend the staff in the office who was very helpful. I am very satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend HI-Power Solar.

It’s been sixteen days since my PV system has been “powered-up.” Net power consumption has been reduced from 28.8 kWh per day to approximately 8.5 kWh. It was once in excess of 37 kWh per day before I replaced my non-functioning solar water heater early in 2011.

It seems that I will only need to add seven or eight additional PV panels in 2012 to achieve my ultimate goal of the minimum $16-18 monthly charge by HECO. The system design of SANYO HIT panels coupled with Enphase M210 micro-inverters is a winning one as the additional panels will legitimately qualify as a third system for the state’s renewable energy tax credit.

It has been a pleasant experience to deal with an honest and high quality solar contractor who uses top-tier components and adheres to a “no BS” philosophy in their dealings with the public. It’s refreshingly unlike the “trickeration” tactics used by some of their competitors.

UPDATE: I received my first HECO bill since the PV system was powered up. It reflected seven days without the PV, 24 days with the system operating. My usage for the seven days was 201 kWh (28.7 per day), 197 kWh for the remaining 24 days (8.2 per day). A definite improvement of over 20 kWh. My overall usage was 12.8 kWh per day, compared with 28.8 kWh the previous billing period.

I had projected a bill in the area of $140.00. It came in at $144.85, primarily due to the extra day (31 vs. 30) @$4.67 in the billing period. It was a reduction of nearly $165.00 from the previous $309.51. For the next billing period (1/07-2/07), I project a net bill of $90-95, a reduction of about $212-220.

Later this year, I’ll add eight more panels to bring my bill to the minimum $16-18 “connection charge.” The eight panels will qualify as a “third system,” allowing me to legitimately claim the 35% state tax credit on the added cost.

FOLLOW-UP: My second HECO bill came in at $86.65, slightly lower than the anticipated $90-95, partly due to a $0.02/kWh rate reduction. 243 kWh used, 695 kWh less than three months prior. 8.1 kWh per day. These figures confirm my projection of eight additional panels to be added in 2012 to bring my bill down to the minimum connection charge. It’ll soon be good-bye to triple-digit “ransom” payments to HECO. After that, I may put out $100K to install 70 additional panels for a 15.7 kW “feed-in-tariff” (FIT) system and produce around 2400-2500 kWh per month to sell back to HECO. At $0.267 per kWh, that’s $640-665 monthly on a $35K net investment, a 21.9% rate of return. What instrument in the financial market can match this? These numbers are also realistic, unlike the made-up fiction promoted by other companies and their FIT systems.

I purchased my solar system from Ron about 2 yrs ago.. and have nothing but satisfaction with it… it helped us save a lot $$$$ especially having to run my central air condition all day dueto my home business. Ron was really helpful and accommodating especialy when it boiled down to our financial agreement.. overall I am extremely happy with my system and I am definately looking forward to doing business with them again!!!!

Having had my share of bad contractors on my new build (GC). I can tell you what makes a good one, Taking responsibility. In my dealings with Ron, he delivered on everything he said and he instantly took care of the one hiccup we had for my job.

I had about 5 pv companies bid for my job and feel lucky I choose Hi-power. Like the other reviewer said he’s no bs. All his calculations were pretty much spot on. Also price and quality of components, Hi-power had everyone else beat.

21 sanyos with the enphase micros. Installed Aug 2012. Turned on 3 weeks later after Heco changed my meter. Deanna called me about three times to update me on Heco’s schedule.

Anyways imo these guys are up and up. Give them a chance and call their references.

I had my PV system installed this past March and HI Power Solar was fantastic. From my initial consult with Ron Romero in February, my permit, installation and meter was running by late March. I got my first bill for March/April which was 1/2 my normal bill. The bill for April/May is now at $18.29. Awesome!!
Ron was very professional, he gave me all my options that was best for me and I decided to go with the Sun Power panels. I always do my research and found that Sun power is rated as a top tier panel maker because of its efficiency and high quality. I also researched the Sun Power company and saw that they only select installers that will keep up there reputation. Ron guys is one of the few authorized installers, which convinced me to go with them.
My hats off to them for the awesome service, followup and quality.

Working in the solar industry I would run into Ron from time to time and he’s always been a pleasant guy. I know a few of his employees and everyone only has great things to say about him.

We were looking for air conditioning units at Honolulu Builders Industry Association show and discovered that Hi-Power Solar installs them as well as solar hot water and photovoltaics. The sales rep at the show, Chase Romero, was very helpful and followed up by promptly providing a competitive quote for split air conditioning units in our home. Unlike the other vendor that provided a quote Hi-Power Solar was able to schedule the installation with very little delay. The installers arrived promptly on schedule. They were very proficient and pleasant workers. We were impressed with the competence of their installation. They installed the units, electrical conduits and refrigerant pipes in accordance with our desires and without cutting any corners. They took pains to ensure that the installation of components did not interfere with existing shelves and storage areas. The installation inside the house, under the house and outside the house is visibly appealing with proper square corners and well installed components. Leni Tupac and Henry Mc Murray were particularly impressive and dedicated to providing a quality installation. They paid attention to detail and when issues arose they overcame them efficiently and effectively. We were very pleased with the entire evolution.
